First Symposium on Psychoactive Substances Held

The first National Symposium on Psychoactive Substances was held at the Military Medical Academy. The meeting was attended by the Head of the Military Medical Academy, Colonel Prof. Dr. Miroslav Vukosavljevic, former Head of the Military Healthcare Department toxicologist Brigadier General retired Assistant professor Dr. Veljko Todorovic, as well as participants from the country and abroad.
Colonel Prof. Dr. Vukosavljevic welcomed the attendees, an institution that, he said, rests on three basic pillars, the so-called "3T" - toxicology, traumatology and transplantation. He emphasized the exceptional importance of controlling and studying existing and new psychoactive substances and expressed his belief that the MMA National Poison Control Center, thanks to its employees and excellent cooperation with colleagues in the country and abroad, will continue its successful work.
The meeting was organized by the MMA National Poison Control Center, and with the support of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), in addition to MMA toxicologists, lectures were delivered by eminent experts from the country and abroad. Practical experiences were exchanged on the chemical structure of psychoactive substances, the treatment of acute poisoning, the lethal outcomes of these substances overdose, and the analytics of controlled and newly synthesized psychoactive substances.
