Before You Donate
There is no special preparation for blood donation concerning your diet. Person who gives the blood should be well-rested, with a good night sleep. He/she should also eat a light meal and drink plenty of fluids- i.e. four glasses of water, one up to two hours before donation process. Low fat meal will keep a stable level of sugar in your blood and help you to feel better after the process has completed, while sufficient amount of fluids is there to keep normal blood pressure and prevent faintness.
It is important to avoid drinking alcohol prior to donating because it makes your blood vessels dilated and decreases blood flow into your brain thus leading to dizziness and weakness.
