Institute of Blood Transfusion and Hemobiology
The Institute represents the central scientific-research, educational-methodological and transfusiological institution of the Serbian Armed Forces.
For more than three decades, our institution carries out transfusions of hemoproducts, therapeutic cytopheresis and plasma transformations in patients hospitalized at the Military Medical Academy and in other civilian institutions, as well.
It also serves as a referral and consultation facility of the Military Transfusiology Service, and the site for checking new chemobiological, immunohematological and other tests and procedures prior to their introduction into the daily practice, standardization of reagents and quality control of blood and blood products.

- Blood Conservation Department with Laboratory for Nucleic Acid Testing-PCR
- Blood Product Section with Quality Control
- Section for Hematogenic Transmissible Viral Diseases
- Section for Immunohematology and Immunogenetics.
The Institute continues very successful cooperation with numerous national and international health institutions, especially in the field of hematopoietic system examination.
History
The MMA’s Blood Transfusion Service i.e. Blood Transfusion Ward was set up in 1950. In 1957, the Blood Transfusion Station grew into the Department of Blood Transfusion, and in 1983, it developed into the Transfusiology Institute.
