Defence minister in technical government Nebojsa Rodic ordered to stop the project which in very short time provoked the reaction among respective number of citizens. It is the project intended to be realized at the Military Medical Academy as a testing using dogs who are not able anymore to perform the assignments within the Serbian Armed Forces units.

Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SANU) addressed the Military Medical Academy demanding the collaboration in the project titled “Regenerative Potential of Hydroxyapatite (HAP) Nanocrystals and Its Conjugate with Vitamin D in Peri-Implant Bone Defects Therapy”.

It has been planned to carry out the project at the Military Medical Academy in the Department of Laboratory and Experimental Care and Use of Animals of the Institute of Medical Research. The experimental use of dogs is intended due to their physiological characteristics.

Request for project has been submitted to the MMA Ethical Council for Welfare of Experimental Animals. According to the MMA Ethical Council Rulebook on Welfare of Animal Intended for Experimental Purposes, the composition and work of that Body have been regulated. It is in accordance with the national law (Animal Welfare Law, article 35, Official Journal of RS, No. 41/09) and European Convention for the Protection of Vertebrate Animals used for Experimental and other Scientific Purposes.

We point out once more that Ministry of Defence insists on appropriate application of national and international legislation in each process.

This kind of supervision over the work of public institutions has been demonstrated as efficient, no matter that in this particular case it have not be approached neither started with the project.
