29. 06. 2012
The representatives of the MMA’s Clinic for General Surgery took an active part in the two medical events - the 44th EPC Congress and the 7th International Symposium on Inherited Diseases of the Pancreas - ISIDP), both held on June 20-30, 2012 in Prague, the Czech Republic. The above-mentioned events are considered one of the most important world congresses devoted to pancreatic diseases, and the ones that bring together experts from the leading healthcare centers in the world.
The Congress multidisciplinary lectures covered the narrower areas of diagnosis and conservative and surgical treatment of acute and chronic pancreatitis and pancreatic tumors. Along with Dr. Helmut Fris, the EPS’ president, and Professor Klement Imri, one of the world’s leading pancreatic surgeons and the designer of the scoring system for evaluation of the severity of the acute pancreatitis, present to the congress were world-renowned surgeons, gastroenterologists, geneticians and pathophysiologists.
This year, the MMA’s General Surgery Clinic presented, for the first time, three presentations dealing with diagnosis, severity evaluation and the therapy of the acute pancreatitis. They were delivered by Prof. Dr. Darko Mirković and Dr. Mihailo Bezmarević.
The titles of the presentations were the following:
- A Single-Center Early Results of the „Decompress“ Study (Decompressive laparotomy with temporal abdominal closure versus percutaneous puncture with placement of abdominal catheter in patients with abdominal compartment syndrome during the acute pancreatitis)
- The BISAP Score and Procalcitonin versus the APACHE II Score and C-reactive Protein in the Early Assessment of the Severity and Outcome of the Acute Pancreatitis
-
The Correlation between Procalcitonin and Intra-abdominal Pressure, and Their Role in the Prediction of the Severity and Outcome in the Acute Pancreatitis
Dr. Mihailo Bezmarević was awarded the best young researcher award by the Congress Expert Commission for his paper entitled „A Single-Center Early Results of the Decompress Study“ (Decompressive laparotomy with temporal abdominal closure versus percutaneous puncture with placement of abdominal catheter in patients with abdominal compartment syndrome during the acute pancreatitis).
The Military Medical Academy is an institution providing therapy for the largest number of national patients with a severe form of acute pancreatitis. The experience of the MMA’s experts gained in the treatment of patients with abdominal compartment syndrome during the severe phase of acute pancreatitis attracted a great deal of interest among the Congress participants.
