Military Medical Academy will be host of the four-day war surgery course, the first of this kind, intended for Austrian medical officers.

This event represents one of the bilateral activities organized and adapted to the partner needs, which should contribute in mutual sharing experiences.

Opening the seminary, Head of the Military Healthcare Department Brigadier General Prof. Dr. Zoran Popovic expressed his contentment with the successful cooperation with Austria emphasizing the importance of foreign experiences in the field of military healthcare within the international organizations.

Head of the Military Medical Academy Brigadier General Prof. Dr. Marijan Novakovic pointed out that military surgery is one of the institution brands saying: “because, concerning the circumstance, we had a lot of experience which we intend to use for the purposes of successful treatment and scientific practice.” He added the fact that beside the contribution which we may offer to Austrian colleagues, the reverse experiences and practice will be great benefit.

The Austrian delegation head Colonel Dr. Mihail Protivinski reminded all present that Austrian group of doctors has vast experience earned in peacekeeping operations but is “profoundly conscious” of the MMA physicians experience.

“It is after all because of the unfortunate events happen in the Serbian recent past, which associated with the experience in Chad peacekeeping operations, represents the unique opportunity to learn more about the work of Serbian colleagues, thus giving us the possibility to improve our knowledge and skills.”

Head of the MMA Sector for Education and Scientific Research Colonel Prof. Dr. Predrag Romic, professional course manager, demonstrated his satisfaction that seven Austrian doctors, orthopedics, specialists in emergency medicine and their surgical team visited MMA during the seminary for sharing experience and participation at the mutual military exercise organized by the Military Medical Training Center of the MMA Sector for Education and Scientific Research.

“Within the exercise, our physicians will demonstrate their skills employed in one of the special circumstances-earthquake. We have been chosen as partner project having long tradition and experience in war surgery, earned unfortunately during last few decades. It is recognized in European and world medicine as the raison of delegation interest”-said Romic adding that we do not dispose of technical possibilities as the other developed countries, namely helicopter and other systems but we boast the knowledge and experience in the most severe situations.

During the course first day, seven participants took a tour around the following organizational units related to seminary topics: Emergency Department, Clinic for Emergency Internal Medicine, Clinic for Anesthesiology and Critical Care with Sterilization and Center for Hyperbaric Medicine.
