Two Jubilees at the Military Medical Academy

Today, the Military Medical Academy has celebrated two important jubillees, one to commemorate one hundredth anniversary of the birth of the Academician, Gen. Dr.Gojko Nikoliš, and the other to mark the 30th birthay of the MMA’s facility. On that occasion, the portrait bust of Dr.Gojko Nikoliš, one of the men who deserves the most credit for establishing this hospital, has been unveiled. The bust is the work of Mr. Vladimir Jokanović.
’’This day is a beautiful day for the Military Medical Academy for at least two reasons. The first refers to marking 30 years since we have moved into this facility. It is a building recognizable as a symbol of the city of Belgrade and Serbia, the seat of military medicine, renowned in the region and far beyond its boundaries. The second, no less important, reason for our geathering today is one hundredth anniversary of the birth of the Academician, Dr.Gojko Nikoliš. Everyone who practices medicine knows how much Gojko Nikoliš as a doctor and humanist means to this profession and the MMA’’ the MMA’s head Col. Marijan Novaković said at the bust unveiling ceremony.
After the ceremony, a scientific event devoted to Gojko Nikoliš’s life and work followed. Organized by the Serbian Academy of Science and Arts (SANU) and the MMA, the event took place at the MMA’s Scientific-Teaching Council Room. The opening speeches were delivered by Col. Prof. Dr. Marijan Novaković, and the president of the SMS’s Academy of Medical Sciences, Prof. Dr. Pavle Milenković. Academicians Vladimir Jokanović and Vladimir Kanjuh addreesed the guests as well.
The book on Gojko Nikoliš’s life and work, authored by Vladimir Jokanović and Col. Prof. Dr. Marijan Novaković, was presented to the present guests to serve as a reminder of one of the greatest figures in the phere of military medicine.
