Scientific Conference on Medical Biochemistry at the MMA

The Military Medical Academy hosted today the 14th Scientific Conference devoted to the life and work of Prof. Ivan Berkeš. It was organized by the Medical Biochemistry Institutes of the MMA and Serbian Clinical Center, and the Society of Medical Biochemists of Serbia.
The introductory speeches at the Conference were delivered by Prof. Dr. Nada Majkić – Singh, the director of the Serbian Clinical Center’s Medical Biochemistry Institute and the president of the Society of Medical Biochemists of Serbia, Col. Prof. Dr. Marijan Novaković, the MMA’s head, and Prof. Dr. Nada Kovačević, the dean of the University of Belgrade Pharmacy School. The Conference brought together a great number of biochemists from Serbia and the region as well.
The outstanding Student of the Year awards and recognitions of the „Profesor Ivan Berkeš“ Scientific Fund were presented to the best students of the Belgrade School of Pharmacy.
Ivan Berkeš was a professor of the Pharmacy School and one of the founders of medical biochemistry in Yugoslavia. He authored several books, one of which is ‘’General and Medical Enzymology’, and over 200 scientific papers published in national and international medical journals. The Society of Medical Biochemists of Yugoslavia and the Belgrade University School of Pharmacy founded the „Profesor Ivan Berkeš“ Scientific Fund, and established the scientific conference dedicated to the work and life of Prof. Ivan Berkeš, which is traditionally held at the Military Medical Academy in December every year.
