13. 05. 2024

Nurses' Day - May 12, was celebrated at the Military Medical Academy in the presence of many friends of this military medical institution.
Head of MMA, colonel prof. Dr. Miroslav Vukosavljević thanked for attending the celebration of the work and work successes of MMA nurses - quiet, modest, hidden heroes among us. He emphasized that it was a celebration of a profession which high standards in providing care, hope and comfort are expected and taken for granted.
Quoting the words of nurse Virginia Henderson, contemporary Florence Nightingale, who reminded that the calling of a nurse was unique in providing assistance to each individual in carrying out those activities that he could not do on his own at a certain moment, while at the same time contributing to the improvement of health and recovery of each patient, providing his psychological, spiritual and social support. Colonel prof. Dr. Vukosavljević emphasized that being a nurse in modern times is a task that the most determined people with true faith in humanity and charity agree to. He also noted that today's MMA nurses are inheritors of the strict but fair criteria by which military medicine has always been recognizable and that the Military Healthcare Department and the MMA Administration will remain a support in the realization of future plans, with the aim of reaching new levels of expertise and competence in the field of health care.
Bojana Jovanović, head of the Health Care Department of the MMA, master nurse, reminded of the slogan of this year's celebration of International Nursing Day, which read "Our nurses, our future." The economic power of care." She pointed out that the priorities in the work of the MMA Health Care Service included, first of all, building trust in the nursing profession, promoting the profession, and creating future nurses - leaders, who would be equipped with the skills needed to progress in the profession in an increasingly challenging environment.
At today's ceremony, certificates of appreciation and praise were presented to associates, gifts to the chief medical technicians of the MMA who retired during the previous year, and the traditional award for "Nurse of the Year", according to strict criteria that included high expertise, outstanding interpersonal communication with patients, high organizational skills, adherence to ethical norms and the code of conduct of healthcare workers, handed over to the head nurse of the Clinic for Eye Diseases of the MMA, Ljiljana Zubić. The award was presented to Sister Zubić by the Head of the Military Healthcare Department, Brigadier General Radivoje Anđelković VMD.
The "Sister of the Year" medal at the MMA bears the name of Sister Verica Ćorluka starting in 2022. Sister Verica Ćorluka, former head nurse of the MMA and colonel of the medical service, is especially deserving of the nursing profession in its current form. Based on one of her visions, continuity in the education of medical technicians is being developed at the MMA and the profession of a military nurse is being perfected. Her contribution was immeasurable not only in the education of health technicians but also in the development of health care in civilian institutions, bearing in mind that as an IT engineer, she was responsible for the development of the hospital information system and was a kind of founder of the health care process.
