The opening ceremony of Laboratory for the preparation of cytological drugs running the centralized preparation of cytotoxic therapy in the Department of Pharmaceutical Technology of the Pharmacy Sector of the Military Medical Academy took place today at the Military Medical Academy. The ceremony was attended by Acting Head of the Military Health Care Department Colonel Ugljesa Jovicic, Acting Head of the Military Medical Academy Colonel Prof. Zoran Segrt, Head of the Pharmacy Sector Prof. Mirjana Antunovic and associates.

The organized preparation of cytotoxic therapy is a unique practice of that kind in Serbia. The cytotoxic drug therapy that provides patients an effective, stable and safe drugs and the staff safety level of work according to the highest world standards is prepared in the laboratory for the preparation of cytologic drugs. An important segment is the economic savings because with dosage calculations and preparations there are no redundancies and the waste is disposed of according to procedures that are the safest in terms of environmental protection. There is a need to prepare the therapy for about 120 oncology patients per day, and it is estimated that about 24,000 of therapies will be prepared annually. This novelty in the Pharmacy Sector has a developmental perspective thus it is planned to prepare other types of therapy, primarily of biological medicines.
