Military health care in the fight against Covid-19

03. 11. 2020

Members of the military health care have met the third wave of the Covid-19 infectious disease readily, and proceeded the continuous months-long fight against the pandemic selflessly and bravely, providing assistance to the citizens.
At the military Covid hospital of the “Karaburma“ Military Medical Centre, which has worked non-stop since March this year, 85 patients are receiving treatment at the moment, including 10 patients in intensive care. The total capacity of the hospital is 135 beds.
The temporary Covid hospital in Belgrade’s “Štark Arena” started operating again on 19 October and since then, 237 patients have been admitted to this hospital. The capacity of this hospital is 510 beds, and in addition to 18 members of the military health care, health professionals from 15 civilian medical institutions participate in the treatment of Covid-19 patients. In the previous period, the temporary Covid Hospital in the “Štark Arena” operated from 6 July to 3 September.
Following the needs of the City of Novi Sad, starting from 4 November, the Military Hospital Novi Sad will be ready to admit Covid patients. Thirty-five beds have been set aside for the treatment of Covid patients in the Internal Medicine Unit, and they are fully equipped with oxygen supply connections and oxygen concentrators.
Should the epidemiological situation in our country call for it, the Military Hospital Niš, in agreement with the Clinical Centre Niš, will be activated for the treatment of up to 85 Covid negative patients, regardless of the type of their health insurance. Currently, this hospital offers an admission-triage clinic for acute respiratory diseases to persons covered by military insurance, where they can get all the information about further treatment.
As of 30 October, the Military Medical Academy is again a 24/7 on-duty health institution for the treatment of all citizens in need of urgent medical care.
In this way, in addition to assisting in fighting the Covid-19 infectious disease, the health facilities of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces will also provide assistance in the treatment of other diseases to both military and civilian insured persons.
