MMA doctors at the symposium on pain therapy

Anesthesiologists of the Military Medical Academy actively participated in the 13th Belgrade International Symposium on Pain (BISOP) held in Belgrade at the end of May 2018.
Team of MMA anesthesiologists, led by the President of the Symposium Scientific Committee Doc. Dr Dusica Stamenkovic, was awarded for the best original paper. The paper entitled "Musicotherapy as an adjuvant non- pharmacological method in the treatment of acute post-operative pain after head and neck surgery, a prospective, randomized study" was presented by Sub-lieutenant Dr Aleksandra Djajic, and a remarkable lecture on" Challenges in Pain Management in Developed countries "was held by Dr. Katarina Mladenovic.
MMA doctors of other specialties also took part in the work of the international conference on the treatment of acute and chronic pain - very important medical areas in general. Dean of the MMA Medical Faculty of the University of Defense in Belgrade Col Prof. Tihomir Ilic with his team presented innovative techniques in the treatment of pain - non-invasive brain stimulation. The participation of clinical pharmacologists of the MMA led by prof. Dr. Viktorija Dragojevic-Simic, marked a session dedicated to writing scientific papers, ethical principles of clinical research and data presentation.
The large session of this year's meeting, which gathered over 800 attendees and dozens of eminent lecturers from Europe and the world, was also dedicated to the PainOut EFIC project, Serbia Network - the largest registry of postoperative pain data in the region. The network of 10 hospitals from our country, including the MMA, are participating with the aim of changing the approach to postoperative pain in Serbia by combining information on the effectiveness of pain therapy and the effectiveness of patients' treatment.
The BISOP Symposium is considered an internationally recognized multidisciplinary event and one of the major in the region, dealing with a broad topic such as pain therapy. Having in mind the fact that in the treatment of pain, various anesthetic techniques and a range of medications are used, and in accordance with the needs and sensitivity of the receptors of each patient, professional meetings such as BISOP are opportunities for sharing knowledge and experience in the field of pain reduction, improving recovery of patients and possible systemic complications reduction.
