The Clinic for Maxillofacial Surgery of the Military Medical Academy today celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of its existence in the amphitheater of this military medical institution, as well as one hundred and ten years of maxillofacial surgery in Serbia.

The ceremony was attended by the head of the Military Healthcare Department, Brigadier General Dr. Radivoje Anđelković, Deputy Head of the MMA Brigadier General Prof. Dr. Dragan Dinčić, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, MMA, Prof. Dr. Sonja Marjanović, numerous colleagues and associates from military and civilian structures.

The ceremony began with the intonation of the national anthem of the Republic of Serbia performed by the members of the Artistic Ensemble of the Ministry of Defense "Stanislav Binički" at the piano and the guest of honor Oliver Njego.

Head of the Clinic for Maxillofacial Surgery, MMA, Prof. Dr. Srboljub Stošić greeted the esteemed gathering, expressing great honor and pride on the occasion of celebrating half a century of the Clinic's existence.

"Today, the Clinic for Maxillofacial Surgery of the MMA is a modern, highly professional clinical institution where the most modern surgical procedures are performed in the treatment of the patients and injuries of the head and neck. " This is also an educational institution engaged in scientific research work. Although expensive, high-tech procedures are not available to us, this does not affect our final surgical results," said Prof. Dr. Stošić, emphasizing the Clinic's cooperation with all surgical and internal medicine clinics at the Military Medical Academy, anesthesia, dentistry, institutes of radiology, pathology, the Institute of Scientific Research and others.

The ceremony was an opportunity to promote the monograph that was prepared for this occasion, which is about the history of the Clinic and maxillofacial surgery in Serbia.

On behalf of the host of the ceremony, the deputy head of the MMA, Brigadier General Prof. Dr. Dragan Dinčić, who emphasized that such events are small celebrations in honor of the profession, science, in honor of health and human being.

"The border between health and unhealthiness is thin, mobile, sensitive, just like the sensitive region of the head, face and neck that you deal with, you also deal with the cheek, our word in all its meanings." At the same time, that border is both strong and persistent, just as you are in the fight to restore appearance, dignity, faith in life to the injured and sick, both in peace and in wartime, with reconstructive surgery as much as possible and thereby do a great, good deed ", said Brigadier General Prof. Dr. Dinčić.

The clinic for maxillofacial surgery of the MMA deals with the diagnosis and treatment of the most serious diseases of the face and neck in a modern, highly specialized manner, and its roots date back to 1912. The former head of the Clinic for Maxillofacial Surgery of the MMA, retired Colonel Professor Dr. Nebojša Jović, and the current Head of the Clinic, prof. Dr. Srboljub Stošić talked about the history of the Clinic and maxillofacial surgery in Serbia, the path of its development and the greats from that field.

The official part was followed by a one-day symposium, where eminent lecturers spoke about the current work of the Clinic for Maxillofacial Surgery, as well as the future development of maxillofacial surgery in Serbia.
