Course on Melanoma Treatment Held

The course about the interdisciplinary approach in the treatment of melanoma organized by the Intersectional Committee for Melanoma of the Serbian Medical Society, the Serbian Association of Medical Oncologist, Clinic for Dermatology and Venereal Diseases and the Clinic for Plastic Surgery and Burns of the MMA, was held at the Military Medical Academy.
The traditional expert meeting brought together medical professionals of different specialties involved in the diagnostics and treatment of melanoma with the aim of improving the treatment of skin malignancies. Lecturers of the Institute for Oncology and Radiology of Serbia, Institute of Pathology, School of Medicine, University of Belgrade and the Military Medical Academy, lectured on melanoma in terms of genetics, immunology, immunohistochemistry, but also about the latest news in radiological diagnostics and methods of nuclear medicine. Attendees had the opportunity to hear a lecture on the gamma knife in the treatment of metastatic melanoma, and also a new educational platform of skin tumors was presented. In the second part of the meeting workshops on prevention and early diagnosis, surgical treatment, systemic therapy and histopathologic and molecular diagnosis of melanoma were held.
According to statistics, more than 100,000 cases of melanoma are annually detected in Europe, and a periodic self examination of the skin and promptly examinations at a doctor are ways to detect this rarest and most dangerous form of skin cancer in early stages, of which primarily the success of treatment depends on.
