Collaboration with German Toxicologists

Working group of Bundeswehr Joint Medical Service, led by the head of Bundeswehr Institute of Pharmacology and Toxicology Colonel Prof. Dr. Horst Thiermann visited Military Medical Academy within their official visit paid to the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Serbia.
German delegation was hosted by the head of the MMA Treatment Sector Colonel Dr. Stevan Sikimic who introduced them with the MMA organization and methodology issues related to the treatment, scientific research and education, as well as with the importance the Military Medical Academy has in republic military medical and civilian healthcare system.
Prof. Dr. Slavica Vucinic, head of the MMA National Poison Control Center informed the guests about the organization of the Center dealing with clinical, analytical and experimental toxicology and operating round the clock for all cases of poisoning at the territory of the Republic of Serbia. Professor Vucinic thanked the guests for the collaboration realized so far, which also enabled one of the MMA employees to complete in Germany one-year specialization in the field of toxicology.
Colonel Prof. Horst Thiermann approved that organization of the Military Medical Academy, which unifies treatment, education and scientific-research work and existence of the National Poison Control Center, as only specialized institution in the country for the treatment of poisoning, represents the example of good practice achieved at both professional and organizational level.

In further course of the visit, German delegation visited the National Poison Control Center, Clinic for Emergency Internal Medicine and Center for Hyperbaric Medicine, concluding that continuation of collaborative relations represents a mutual interest.
