World Day against the chronic obstructive pulmonary disease - COPD, a disease that is considered to be the third leading cause of death in the world today was marked at the Military Medical Academy.
All interested citizens had the opportunity to consult with the doctors of the Clinic for Lung Diseases MMA in the lobby of the Specialist Outpatient Clinic. Persons who had symptoms or risk factors were referred to the spirometry testing. During the campaign, which lasted from 9.00 am to 1.00 pm, 25 people were referred to the specialist pulmonology examination and spirometry. In most of them positive result to COPD was found and they were given recommendations for further treatment.
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in our country affects about 600,000 people and increasing awareness of people about the risk factors for this disease is important because of the fact that symptoms such as chronic cough and shortness of breath can remain undetected until the disease advances. Timely diagnosis and an adequate therapy can remove existing symptoms of COPD in order to slow down the further course of the disease.
