A lecture on the results of the research on new ways of treating malignancy given by Professor Dr. Pravina Kaumaya from the State University of Ohio, United States was held at the Military Medical Academy. Professor Kaumaya is a world-renowned scientific researcher in the field of cancer prevention and treatment, who in his rich work opus has several patents in the field of vaccination against viruses and autoimmune diseases. In his research work, he uses the original approach in which he makes a vaccine against several different proteins that are important for the development of cancer.

Professor Kaumaya showed the results of the research on the development of new peptide cancer vaccines and combined immunotherapy for the treatment of breast, colon and gastric cancer. As he said, combining new immunotherapeutic methods could significantly improve the remission of various types of malignant diseases by influencing certain receptors. The results of the clinical studies that were described identified new peptide vaccines and inhibitors or combination therapies, which by targeting specific receptors caused a significant shift in the antitumor cell reaction. The results presented were the result of the first and second phase of clinical studies with patients in the cancer terminal stage, whose life expectancy increased from six months to three and a half years, which was a huge advantage compared to previous treatment methods, with no side effects behind.

As concluded in the lecture, the development of an immunological stimulation strategy with the help of vaccines and inhibitors could have a lasting clinical benefit primarily for those suffering from high risk metastatic carcinoma.
