The meeting of the Section for Radiological Diagnostics of the Serbian Medical Society, organized by the Institute of Radiology of the Military Medical Academy, was held at the MMA.
In the introductory part, the Head of the Institute of Radiology of the MMA, Colonel Dr. Dragan Dulovic, said that between the two traditional December meetings the Institute fulfilled the annual goals in the treatment segment and stated that in 2017, approximately 80,000 patients were examined through the 105,000 procedures. He also pointed out that the continuation of technological equipping realization is one of the important ways of further improvement of quality and speed of work, especially when it comes to radiological diagnostics.
In the expert part of the meeting, the doctors of the MMA held four lectures on various aspects of radiological diagnostics. Recalling that the history of radiology begins with the presentation of the musculoskeletal system, Major Dr. Ratko Stamatovic held a lecture in the field of scoliosis pathology, for which standard spinal radiography is considered a basic diagnostic method with a mandatory individual approach to each patient. Lt Col Dr. Boban Krstic spoke about the experiences and challenges of the radiological department during the peacekeeping mission in the Central African Republic. In addition to the clinical presentation of specific traumatic injuries, it was also discussed about the adequate diagnosis of patients in complex conditions of work. Major Dr. Igor Sekulic presented interventional vascular radiology in the treatment of pulmonary thromboembolism - the consequences of deep venous thrombosis. In addition to specifying the characteristics of various radiological methods for the purpose of timely diagnosis, their benefits are also indicated, depending on the time of PTE score reporting, the available technology, as well as the specificity of the patients. The fourth lecture on the diagnostic modalities of the kidney trauma, and above all the computerized tomography that is considered to be the gold standard in this area, was held by Lt Col Dr. Miroslav Misovic. Highlighting the advantages of this method, such as easier detection of associated injuries, high specificity and high-quality overview of all regions, indications of this procedure exclusively for hemodynamically stable patients were discussed.
