A New Year Reception for Media Representatives at the MMA

Belgrade, December 23, 2009. – A traditional New Year Reception for journalist was held at the Military Medical Academy in the presence of the representatives of the most prominent Serbian media houses. Results achieved in this calendar year were presented along with the announcement of key initiatives of this institution of the highest national importance for the future.
In his address to the guest present to the event, the MMA’s head, Major General Prof. Dr. Miodrag Jevtić presented the two most important achievements as well as concrete results of this ‘Balkan Temple of Health’ achieved this year.
‘Proceeding from the old Latin saying ‘Res, non verba’ meaning Deeds, not words. (Actions speak louder than words), this year in which we have marked 165 anniversary of the foundation of the General Military Hospital which tradition we continueuntil the present day, let me point out some of the most important results the MMA achieved in 2009 serving the health’, said General Jevtić. at the beginning of his official speech.
‘A military report would be: we have enrolled the first generation of the medical students –cadets of the MMA’s School for Advanced Studies; our surgical team has successfully accomplished its mission within the UN peacekeeping operation in Chad; our international cooperation with the West and the East as been intensified; we have been awarded the ISO Quality Management System certifications and accreditations for 5 MMA’s laboratories; the highest recognition for providing complete medical support to the biggest sporting event in Serbia –Universiade 2009 has been presented to us; our good business policy and saved funds form the basis of our procurement strategy (provision of the state-of-the-art equipment); from scientific and professional aspect, we shift borders of medicine using our knowledge and skills; we care about the health of the Serbian Armed Forces members and all the citizens of our country as well as the members of the Diplomatic Corps accredited to Belgrade. Greater interest of both our patients and partners in our institution is the best proof of the public confidence in the MMA’s brand’, said General Jevtić and added that, in 2009, the Military Medical Academy diagnosed and treated more than half a million outpatients, admitted 35 000 patients for further hospital treatment, conducted around 3 million laboratory and diagnostic procedures including the most complex ones such as transplantations of liver, kidney, bone marrow and stem cells as well as complex neurosurgeries (400 spinal stabilization procedures) and did many other things.
‘We have also marked important jubilees: 100 years of the existence of Military Dermatology Service, 50th anniversary of Military Nuclear Medicine, 45 years of the Toxicological Service and 65 continuous years of publishing our magazine -Military Medical Review- the journal indexed among the most prestige world’s scientific magazines not only in the field of medicine, but scientific research’, said General mentioning two important scientific-research projects currently under way which contain 62 concrete tasks covering various fields of medicine
‘Medicine knows no limits! We have established cooperation with the largest medical centers in the world. This year, we’ve hosted the visits of the representatives of the Chinese and Cyprus Defense Ministries, Libyan Minister of Health, Chief of the General Staff of the Austrian Armed Forces, high representatives of our partners’ institutions from the U.S.A., Chine, Great Britain, Greece, Bulgaria, Turkey, Germany, Portugal, Czech Republic, Spain, Sudan, Algeria, Egypt, Mexico, Japan and the Kingdom of Norway, which is our strategic partner in the sphere of international integrations. They are all willing to cooperate with us on equal basis sharing their experiences and knowledge with us. They want to learn from us; we to apply their knowledge in our practice. Therefore, we have sent several tents of our young colleagues abroad for education and training purposes. The MMA’s physicians have actively been involved in 117 national and international congresses held in the course of this year.
The MMA’s head expressed his gratitude to all MMA’s partners and friends in Serbia and the world for their support, and reiterated how proud he was for the achieved results.
