Belgrade, December 12 - Traditional annual professional meeting of surgery nurses – technicians organized by the MMA’s Health Department and Serbian Association of Medical Nurses, Technicians and Midwives was held at the Military Medical Academy, on December 11, 2008.

About 400 participants from 56 healthcare facilities including clinical centers, hospitals, health institutions and centers from our Republic took part in this event. The attendees were offered a warm welcome to the Military Medical Academy by its head Major General Prof. Miodrag Jevtić, MD, PhD who said that this institution where work and its results were valued the most, contribution of medical nurses and technicians were particularly appreciated, and added that MMA remains open for any form of cooperation with anyone.
 

Afterwards, participants Željko Jadranin, MD and Zorica Bekteš, a senior medical nurse from the Military Medical Academy, Radica Rakić, a senior medical nurse from the Studenica Health Center in Kraljevo and Lidija Manojlović, a senior medical nurse from the Institute of Digestive System Diseases, Clinical Center of Serbia, spoke about problems relating to nosocomial infections, specifics of the health care and active role of nurses-technicians in preoperative and postoperative care of surgical patients, care and prevention of surgical site infection and specifics of postoperative wound infections.
